This shirt commemorates the efforts of two great gentlemen: John Bishop and Mr. Katayama. Individually and collectively they made indelible marks on small bore sedan racing in the United States in the mid 1960’s and early 1970’s.

John was the President of the SCCA and the driving force behind the launch of amateur and professional B-sedan racing in 1966. Without him we would not have had the Trans-Am Under 2 Liter (U2L) or the Trans-Am 2.5 Challenge series.

It is likely the 510 would not have been thought of as a race car without Yutaka Katayama. The charismatic “Mr. K.” was Nissan’s first President in the U.S. and an avid auto enthusiast. It was his commitment to racing combined with the BRE team’s efforts that solidified the Datsun 510’s success on and off the racetrack, culminating in winning the Trans-Am 2.5 Challenge national championships in 1971 and 1972.

We hope you appreciate the T -Shirt a little more now that you know the intent behind it.
